Properties Of liquid

vapour Pressure
Is the Pressure exerted by the vapours on the surface of the liquid at a particular temperature. When rate of evaporation equals to rate of condensation. If temperature is increased vapour pressure also increases.

Evaporation

The process of escaping of liquid molecules from the surface of the liquid .It will take place at any temperature and its a surface phenomena.evaporation causes process cooling effect because of the time of evaporation surface molecules takes energey from the remaining molecules to escape so energy of the remaining molecule decreases.

Boiling point

The process of escaping of molecules from the bulk of liquid is called boiling poin..It will start at a particular called boiling point.Boiling point is the temperature at which vapour pressue of the liquid becomes equal two the atmospheric pressure. At the top of the hill boiling point of water decreases because at the top atmospheric pressure is low.

Nature of liquid

Magnitude of vapour pressure depends upon the nature of liquid as the intermolecular force of attraction between the molecules in the liquid state decreases .Molecules can easily leave the liquid and go to vapour phase.Hence vapour pressure will be high..

Temperature of the liquid.

Vapour pressure of the liquid increase with increase in temperatue .As temperature increase molecules obtain higher kinetic energy and can be easily escape for the vapour state.

Surface tension

Surface tension of a liquid is the force acting per unit lenght perpendicular to the surface of the liquid .This is experienced due to the unbalanced force of atraction of the molecules at the surface of the liquid.Hence the molecules on the surface of the liquid feels some tension downwards which is called the surface tension. The unit is N/m.Surface tension decreases with increase in temperature.

Aplications of surface tension

Rain drops have spherical shape due to surface tension.Due to surface tensionliquid surface tries to have minimum area.Liquid drop asumes spherical shape because a sphee has the minimum surface area for a Given volume.

Viscosity

The internal ressistance to flow posesed by a liquid is called its viscosity.Viscosity decreases with increase in temperature.Because by increasing temperature liquid molecules get enough energy. So ressitance decreases .If the intermolecular force of atraction between the molecule of a liquid is high its viscosity is also be high.
